The Lorax: UNLESS

>> Wednesday, March 21, 2012

Welcome to Thneedville. A city they say that was plastic and fake. And they liked it that way! No nature, no flowers. No one seemed to mind. But a secret was waiting for someone to find.

Have i told you that one of my most favorite quotes was from Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax? Oh yes. And that minute my eyes got a glimpse of the orangy grumpy yet charming creature on the cinema ad that says next picture, I knew i’m gonna have a good reason for bullying my sister to accompany me to the silver screen and spend P121.00 for a 95 minutes film.

So last Saturday, with my Mcdo’s apple float, i joined some kids (with their moms and dads) in their weekend movie dates. Just like how Chris Renaud tickled me with the minions (i miss stealing the mooon with Mr. Gru!) in the “Despicable Me”, which i have watch repeatedly, mostly during blue-bum days, he again won my heart. Well, i do not know, call me weirdo or anything, but somewhere in the film, i caught my eyes wet with salty fluid. Was it the bully kid beside me? Nah. Was it Ate who didn’t want for another round of the film? I hate her for that but, no. Maybe i felt fear for our earth and for the next generations who will soon call this planet as their home (and that includes our nieces and nephews and their kids and grandkids and so on). I’m afraid that we are all becoming a “Once-ler” who was so blinded with his aim for success and progress, and may i add, recognition reasoning that he only speaks for men and human opportunities. Call me so corney but i really fear that trees will just be a once upon a time story.

Okay, i won’t say much. I like you to watch the film. I like everyone to watch the film, kids and kids at heart and those who have lost the child within them. For maybe, just maybe, after watching, Ted will wake a part of our consciousness.

Anyway, here are some of my favorite lines aside from the one in my fb profile pic, Unless someone like you cares an awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.

Ted: I won't let you down.
Once-ler: I know.

The Lorax: But nobody listens too much, don't you know.

The Lorax: They say I'm old-fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast!

Once-ler: I promise.
The Lorax: I trust you.

Ted: So, this is really your fault. You destroyed everything.

The Lorax: Hey you broke your promise. You know you are better than this.

The Lorax: All the forces of nature will be unleashed upon you and you will be punished until the end of your days. You have been warned. (Promise, i’d like to use this line in casting spells to grouchy people)

and lastly, a line from Ted: Well, that's me - the guy who still cares. (i hope everyone of us will say this, because Dr. Seuss has been so right, UNLESS, we start speaking for the trees, we too can experience the artificial life of people in a walled town called Thneed-ville)

no. it's not yet time to wear my black cap and gown. i still need to count three more semesters to wear that again.but March definitely did sprinkle lots of good things to remember.

Last March 23, we were invited to attend the senior’s graduation ball themed SENIORS UNMASKED. We really danced with the teachers (sobrang groovy nila) and with the students (feeling 16 years old, talaga).

My best accessory that shimmery night: Victoria's Secret SUPER MODEL sparkle.

Oh, here's some of my pictures from last year’s senior's ball with atcheng gabby. (i wonder why he doesn't have a picture or maybe someone was already taking pictures of him that night? ) haha. Peace.

And also one misty sunday of march, i grabbed myself a copy of Gabriel Garcia Marquez' book, The Memories of My Melancholic Whore, from a booksale.Take note: just for PHP 40.00 plus a cute bottle of Estée  Lauder Beyond Paradise from atet. You have to see the super wide smile in my face. What a sweet-smelling reading!

My favorite line aside from the famous today's the day: "Nothing, I replied, wounded to the core, I know very well what I can and cannot do."

Let us move into some mouth-watering side, like this newest must-try from yellow cab, dear darla. The name was derived from Darla who is the love interest of Alfalfa in the hit movie "The Little Rascals" (which i haven't watched). The latter writes letters to the former, so there goes the name. Now, imagine a thin-crust pizza loaded with special blend of tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese, onions, black olives, mushrooms, pepperoni and capers layered with arugula leaves and alfalfa sprouts. Drizzled and rolled with chili oil and pepper. triple yum. I could've wolfed down the 10-inch pizza all by myself, but then I had to share it with Ate Grace.

By the way, did you support the earth hour, the biggest climate awareness campaign? I did =). And I hope everybody will support anything that advocates concern for our planet earth.

And lastly, we moved into our new office. =) We (me, aiza and sir ferdie) would really like to thank the whole UBHS family for making us feel so much part of that family. More warm years of working together. See the pictures here.
Bye, March. I’ll see you again, after 365 days.

"i am a scientist. i don't believe in fairy tales". – Grace, Avatar

>> Monday, February 15, 2010

I am in a bottomless gratefulness to James Cameron for making me fall into a deep feeling of adoration amidst my silent odium to the love month. Yes, it was just last feb 1 that I was able to grab a copy of this much talked-about film.

The Pope criticized AVATAR for the promotion of worshiping nature instead of religion. Well, I guess the message that the film wants to instill in us is the infinite love that we should give to the home given to us by the ALMIGHTY GOD, our earth. c'mon, people, let's STOP DESTROYING OUR PLANET because we ARE JUST DESTROYING OURSELVES. And of course, incessantly loving our self and the others and being an avid fan of acceptance and trust. Of loving the things that we have, and the things we don’t have.

I hope we can always keep the spirit of the true quintessence of love and have the heart to see beauty in everything that exists in this incredible universe.

By the way, let me repost this one from a blog (http://pleasefindthis.blogspot.com/)where I often make tambay whenever my brain salivates from beautiful phrases: (warning: CHEESY)

You are my science.
You make me believe in the atoms in your skin.
Now I believe in the chemistry in our kiss.
And now I believe in the molecules that make up love.
You are my science. I am a scientist.
